Wondering what to see in Jamaica? As one of the Caribbean’s most lively islands, there are plenty of fun things to do in Jamaica. We’ve done the work for you; check out our fave five excursions!

1. Dunns River Falls

Cue the Kokomo! Featured in many Hollywood films, you may recognize these iconic falls from the silver screen, this shimmering, multi-tiered cascade is much more dramatic in real life. If you’re in Montego Bay or Ocho Rios, no trip is complete without a visit to stunning Dunns River Falls.

Recommended Jamaican excursion: Dunns River Falls Tour, which includes a visit to Discovery Bay and a hike around Dunns Fall park, a protected area and national treasure.

2. Luminous Lagoon

Jamaica’s Luminous Lagoon is as magical as it sounds—perhaps even more. Edged by emerald marshlands, it gets its name from the millions of luminescent, glowing algae that light up the water in an enchanting sparkle. It’s as otherworldly as a Disney theme park attraction, except this is all Mother Nature’s handiwork.

Recommended Jamaican excursion: Trelawny Lagoon Boat Ride. Glide across the Luminous Lagoon after dark, taking in its magnificent iridescent waters and Trelawny’s lush, surrounding flora, as well as Falmouth’s gorgeous waterfront.

3. Kingston Day Trip

Jamaica’s capital city is both lively and laid-back. The financial capital of the West Indies, Kingston is home to the Governor General’s residence (a major James Bond film location for Dr. No) and cultural attractions, including the ever-popular Bob Marley Museum.

Recommended Jamaican excursion: A Kingston tour from Montego Bay is a scenic, air-conditioned bus ride, where you can admire the verdant splendour of Fern Gully, home to more than 500 fern species, and mountainous views from Mount Diablo.

4. Mystic Mountain

Here we go from Bob Marley to bobsled! One of the most fun things to do in Jamaica is bobsled down Mystic Mountain in Ocho Rios. Ascend to the top onboard the state-of-the-art Sky Lift Explorer, giving you panoramic views of the rainforest, then zoom down through the scenic tropical landscape. (We suggest watching one of our favourite feel-good classics, Cool Runnings, for some cute Jamaican Olympic bobsled inspo!)

Recommended Jamaican excursion: Mystic Mountain Bobsled & Sky Explorer. You’ll get perfect views of the rainforest canopy and ocean, from the exhilarating rides both up and down.

5. Swamp Safari

Venture off your manicured resort and check out some Jamaican wildlife (and we don’t mean a Kingston nightclub)! Jamaica’s dense mangroves are home to more than 30 endangered American crocodiles, the Jamaican boa constrictor and rare feathered friends (cue the reggae classic Yellow Bird). The biodiversity is astounding and a must for nature enthusiasts or those looking to make their Jamaica travels more meaningful.

Recommended Jamaican excursion: Jamaica Cave & Swamps Tour. Nothing says luxury Jamaica beach holiday better than caves and swamps! Joking aside, this expertly guided tour takes you through swampy mangroves, a bird aviary and the underworld mystique of the Cockpit County Caves.

6. Chukka Jungle River tubing

Journey into the heartland of Montego Bay, where expert guides can lead you through the lush green jungle-scape of Jamaica’s untouched mountain ridges. Hop into a float and navigate down the twists and bends of the Great River on this river tubing tour.

7. Chukka Cove Canopy Tour

Zoom across the treetop platforms on ziplines on this jungle Canopy Tour. Strap on a harness and angling equipment with the help of your expert guide before darting from one jungle top platform to another, over rushing river rapids and lush tropical landscape.

Take a break from the heat and head into Jamaica’s breezy Blue Mountains by bike. Geared towards cyclists of all abilities, your guided tour of jungles, coffee bean farms, and waterfalls is all downhill – so the hardest part will be fixing your helmet hair afterwards.

11. Rastafari Indigenous Village

Rastafarianism might seem quintessentially Jamaican to the rest of the world, but the truth is the grassroots religion has had more than its fair share of opposition on the island. Rastafari Indigenous Village was built to preserve Rastafari traditions and self-sustaining ways of life. Learn more about Rastafarian culture, music, and food with an eye-opening trip to this village.

12. Boating Trip

Take a 24-foot leap of faith into the rejuvenating waters of Blue Hole Mineral Spring. The limestone-framed natural pool is a well-loved attraction in Ocho Rios, and worth making the trip. And don’t worry; there’s a ladder for those who are a little bit too nervous to make the jump.
