Rome

The view from Janiculum Hill
Janiculum Hill is in Trastevere, a neighbourhood with centuries of working-class roots, situated along the left bank of the Tiber river. Janiculum is unofficially considered to be the Eighth Hill of Rome, referring to the seven hills around which Ancient Rome was built.
“Find the Cornaro Chapel and stand in awe of Bernini's masterpiece, The Ecstasy of St. Theresa. It is amazing, built into the side of the chapel so the sun shines in from above, changing the play of light across the marble. STUNNING.” - Jessica Brown, Expert Traveller from Flight Centre Bloor West Village, Toronto.
Taste
Maritozzi sweet buns
Maritozzi sweet buns are traditional Roman pastries filled with fluffy sweet whipped cream that melts in your mouth. This light bun is spiced with cinnamon and battered with fresh lemon zest, candied peels and spices.
“Best restaurant in Rome is Roma Sparita. Get the cacio e pepe. It was Anthony Bourdain’s favourite dish and restaurant in the city.” - Anna Buczek, Expert Traveller from Flight Centre Metro Hall, Toronto.
“La Sandwicheria is just a few blocks away from the Trevi Fountain, and is the best sandwich shop in the world. Buy two, so when you finish the first one, you can go, 'awwwww yea, I have another one!'” - Dave Burton, Corporate Product Manager for Flight Centre Canada.
“Obica Mozzarella Bar is a cute and well-priced restaurant in Campo de' Fiori, casual vibe + delicious homemade food in a fun, lively area. Aroma is a beautiful rooftop restaurant and bar with amazing views of the Colosseum, and has highly rated Michelin-starred food - pricey and usually requires reservations, perfect for a ‘treat yo' self’ or romantic dinner. Paciotti Salumeria is a family-run deli/grocery store with an amazing selection of cheese, cured meats, oils, pasta, etc.; great for a DIY picnic in one of Rome's pretty parks or for taking stuff home! Total foodie heaven.” - Jessica Pong, Product Marketing Coordinator for Flight Centre Canada.
“That's Amore was my fave restaurant in Rome. Steps from the Trevi Fountain.” - Chantel Champagne, Flight Centre Holidays Concierge for Flight Centre Canada.
“Do not miss out on trying authentic and delicious gelato from Neve Di Latte or Giolotti (established in 1900 and still a family-run business today.) And take a chance on the little side cafes and restaurants.” - Amber Morrall, Expert Travel Manager from Corporate Traveller.

Colourful & bohemian Trastevere
Trastevere is a laid back, bohemian area across the river from the historical centre of Rome. Known for its traditional trattorias, craft beer pubs and artisan shops, Trastevere’s late night promenade draws a young crowd. Most of the buzz can be found around Piazza di San Calisto and Piazza Santa Maria, where the site of a gilded, mosaic-filled church is located.
“For summer in Rome, I love Ice Club. It’s great for getting out of the 45-degree heat!” - Connor Jack, Expert Traveller from Flight Centre Southcentre, Calgary.
Milan
See
Grand Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II
An extraordinary emblem of Milanese architecture and design, the Grand Galleria Vittoria Emanuele II is a stunning arcade of shops and boutiques. Boasting with marble, mosaics and a 50-foot high iron and glass domed roof, the Grand Galleria also serves as a passageway between Piazza del Duomo and Piazza Della Scalla. Built between 1865 and 1867, the Grand Galleria was designed by architect Giuseppe Mengoni to celebrate the unification of Italy and was named after the first king of Italy.
“Galleria Vittoria Emanuele is a must, along with Castello Sforzesco, and of course the Duomo. The crypt in the cathedral is super cool to see, as well as the museum!” - Connor Jack, Expert Traveller from Flight Centre Southcentre, Calgary.
Taste
Traditional Risotto Alla Milanese
Made with rice, fat, beef bone marrow, nutmeg, and generously topped with fresh grated cheese, traditional Risotto Alla Milanese gets its distinct golden hue from a few pinches of saffron. Milan’s signature risotto was introduced in 1929 by Milanese chef Felice Luraschi.
Tour
Ancient & artistic Brera district
Just north of historic Piazza Duomo is Brera, the centre of Milan’s fine art, fashion and design universe. One of Milan’s most attractive areas, Brera has narrow cobblestone sidewalks lined with vintage scooters, chic boutiques, elegant piazzas and a great aperitivo scene that adds to Brera’s cozy, bohemian atmosphere.
