On October 15, Flight Centre introduced a new COVID-19 Insurance and Assistance Plan, administered by Allianz Global Assistance Canada.
This plan is available to Flight Centre customers travelling internationally and offers valuable protection for emergency medical treatment related to COVID-19, along with additional value-added benefits.
We chatted with Ryan Atwill, Flight Centre’s travel insurance professional, who helped answer some frequently asked questions about the COVID-19 Insurance and Assistance Plan.
Q: What is the new COVID-19 Insurance and Assistance Plan?
A: The COVID-19 Insurance and Assistance Plan provides up to $1,000,000 in coverage for COVID-19 related emergency medical and quarantine expenses while travelling outside of Canada, including the United States. For all around travel protection, we recommend customers purchase Emergency Hospital and Medical or All-inclusive Plan with the COVID-19 Insurance and Assistance Plan.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL TREATMENT: Medical expenses related to the treatment of COVID-19 after receiving a positive COVID-19 test result.
TRANSPORTATION: Expenses incurred for transportation to the nearest appropriate medical facility or to a Canadian hospital if an insured tests positive for COVID-19 while on their trip.
RETURN OF TRAVEL COMPANION: If an insured is quarantined, hospitalized or repatriated, this benefit is for expenses to transport a travel companion and dependent children back to their home.

Q: Which destinations are eligible for COVID-19 Insurance and Assistance Plan?
A: All international destinations, except those with a Level 4 advisory on the date of departure, are eligible for COVID-19 Travel Protection. The coverage may also be purchased up to 240 days in advance.
Coverage is not currently available for cruises or any destination included in your cruise itinerary.
Q: Is the new COVID-19 Insurance and Assistance Plan only for Flight Centre Holidays?
A: Nope! Flight Centre is offering this valuable coverage for almost all types of trips.
