We'd be lying if we said we didn't have one of the best jobs in the world. Working in travel is an experience that opens you up to new places, cultures, languages and ideas. From travel perks, to travel knowledge, here's just a few of the reasons why working in the travel industry is awesome (and trust us, there are plenty more reasons).

1. You Become a Master at Geography

No matter what part of the travel industry you work in, chances are it involves looking at a map at least once a day. Working in travel opens up your world to learn about new cities, countries, and experiences that you may not have known about before.

2. Fam Trips

In order to be able to advise people on what hotels, tour companies and airlines have to offer,  it means having firsthand knowledge of the product itself (which means travelling to experience it!). Many suppliers and tourism boards offer 'FAM' trips (short for familiarization trips) to travel agents and support staff who work in travel so that they can better understand the products they are selling. At Flight Centre, we provide each staff member with 5 educational days a year (on top of their vacation time) which can be used towards experiencing a product or service that we sell. From adventure tours, to cruises, our Flighties get some pretty amazing opportunities to travel to epic locations all over the world. Just check out the hashtag #FlightieLife and see for yourself!

3. Access to Sweet Travel Deals

When you become a certified travel agent, you can apply for an IATA card (International Air Transport Association) which allows you to access and book hotels and services at a discounted rate provided there is availability. This allows you to travel for a much cheaper cost so you can experience more of the products and services you sell (while helping to fulfill your strong travel bug desires). And since you travel so much, chances are, you have racked up enough points to earn elite status with airlines. You know the value of a bulkhead seat and a glass of wine (or two) in an airport lounge before take-off.

4. You Are Everyone's Favourite Storyteller

Whether you are at a dinner party, on a date, or meeting with a client, chances are you'll have a lot of colourful travel stories to share which instantly helps break the ice in any situation. Travel is a topic that most people perk up about, and since you have a lot of insider knowledge working in the industry, chances are you're going to make a lot of friends pretty fast who want to pick your brain about where to travel to next.

5. You Become a Road Warrior

Whether you are travelling for work or fun, you quickly become prepared to deal with any travel hiccup that comes your way. Pack everything into a carry-on bag? No problem! Delayed flight? You've got this. There are few things that can stress you out when you have the right attitude and the tools needed to get through any situation.
