Thinking about taking a cruise? Our Travel Consultant Kelsey shares her experience aboard the Carnival Freedom and her Top 5 must-do's when cruising with Carnival Cruises:

I was fortunate enough to embark on a Carnival Cruise this winter which left from Fort Lauderdale and stopped at Grand Cayman Island as well as Cozumel, Mexico.  I couldn't choose just one thing to highlight from this amazing trip, so I've come up with a list of 5 Must Do's on any Carnival Cruise!

1. Get a Balcony Room

It may seem like something small, we so often hear, "I won't spend that much time in my cabin", but the truth is there is nothing better than coming back to your cabin and enjoying a glass of wine on your private balcony.  You cruise through such beautiful waters and to see flying fish or the coast line of Cuba in privacy is a wonderful added bonus.

2. Indulge in the Food

My best piece of advice when it comes to the food options on board, is that you need to try the pizza! The pizzeria on the Carnival ship was a definite highlight for me.  Although there are so many delicious options for food on the ship from the Mongolian stir-fry, to the chocolate fondue fountain, everything was delicious.  But, the one thing I couldn't get enough of was the pizza.  It was open late so it was perfect for a late night snack.  They had so many mouth watering options and they made the pizza right in front of you!  Trust me, the pizza is something you don't want to miss.

3. Enjoy a Comedy Show

Thirdly, you can't miss the comedy shows!  Both the "family" and the "adult only" shows are hilarious.  Make sure you go early as the comedy lounge fills up fast but it is certainly well worth the wait.  Every night the lounge had standing room only and the comedians were a hit.  The family shows were great but make sure you enjoy the late night adults only shows as well, they are "laugh until your cry" funny.

4. See a Live Show

Another must do on any Carnival Cruise, is to enjoy the live shows.  On our cruise it was a Beatles Tribute and it was amazing!  The performers were great and the theatre was packed.  There were two shows and we were able to enjoy the late one, which was a perfect end to a great evening!

5. Make the Most of your Port Cities

Finally, a must do on any cruise, is to make the most of your port cities.  We didn't have the best weather at either of our stops but that is certainly something we can't control.  We shopped and enjoyed great food and local beer in Cayman Island.  We also did some snorkeling and were in very close contact with some very large tarpon.  In Cozumel we were able to rent an old VW Beetle and explore the island at our own speed.  We went off the beaten path and found some beautiful beaches and great local food.

Overall, the cruise was a great experience.  There was never a dull moment with more than enough activities to choose from and certainly enough food to get you through your trip.  The staff was beyond helpful and made the trip even better.  Hopefully these five tips are able to help you make the most of your next Carnival Cruise!
