Frequently asked questions

What is the best part of Houston to stay in?

Downtown Houston is ideal for first-timers as it’s close to the city’s major attractions, restaurants, bars, shops and accommodation options. For a slightly more upscale vacay, Galleria boasts boutiques, fine dining restaurants and luxury hotels.

What is Houston TX best known for?

“Houston, we have a problem.” Houston is home to the world-famous NASA Johnson Space Centre, but there’s so much more to this thriving Texan metropolis. The city is also a culinary melting pot thanks to its delightfully diverse population, a culture vulture’s happy place thanks to its many museums and galleries and a nature lover’s paradise thanks to its expansive parks.

When is the best time to visit Houston?

Thanks to its location in the Gulf of Mexico, Houston has a reputation for being hot and humid, with intermittent and (often unexpected) bursts of rain. If you’re dreaming of sun-soaked festivals and beach parties, the high season stretches from June to September, but be prepared to sweat your way through your stay.  If you’re keen to avoid the blistering heat, aim for the shoulder season from March to May and October to November. If you’re keen to avoid the crowds, aim for the low season from December to February, but be prepared for cold.

What is there to do in Houston?

Eat, sleep then eat some more. Houston is known for its diversity, which has resulted in a varied food culture that represents more than 70 countries. Fancy a Vietnamese feast? Perhaps a little Peruvian or Ethiopian? You’ll find it in Houston. Post Hurricane Katrina, a quarter of a million people from New Orleans landed in Houston, with many of them staying and introducing its signature Cajun flavours to the city. As such, crawfish season is huge in Houston and don’t even get us started on the deliciousness of Tex-Mex.

How many days are enough for Houston?

Houston is a vibrant and enchanting city so to spend less than three days here would be a crime. Ideally, allow a day exploring the NASA Johnson Space Centre, a day or two dedicated to the many museums, a day or two to explore the city and a day for Galveston.

What to take on holiday to Houston?

Houston’s weather can be unpredictable so carry a light, weatherproof jacket with you just in case. It’s also likely you will be doing plenty of walking, so comfortable shoes are a must!

Where to go on holiday in Houston?

The Houston Space Centre should be the first stop on every traveller’s itinerary. Some other must-see things to see and do include the Houston Zoo, the museum district, which includes almost 20 different museums, catch a game at NRG Stadium, eat your way around the city and explore Houston’s buzzing nightlife districts. If your visit coincides with February and March, the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo is a guaranteed highlight.
